Minister To Lam receives French Ambassador

Politburo member and Minister of Public Security General To Lam received Ambassador of the French Republic to Vietnam Olivier Brochet, who has just taken office as French Ambassador to Vietnam.

Minister To Lam welcomed the newly-appointed French Ambassador to Vietnam and hoped that the ambassador would perform well his tasks, contributing to further promoting the relationship between the two countries in general, and between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and relevant agencies of France in particular. 

Minister To Lam expressed delight at the positive results of the cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and law enforcement agencies of France in crime prevention and control in recent times.

The minister proposed, the two sides strengthen cooperation in preventing and controlling transnational crime, non-traditional security issues such as epidemics, climate change, food security, money laundering, as well as enhance cooperation in the fields of cyber security, aviation security, and personal data protection, and share information and experience in terrorism prevention and crisis management.

He urged the two sides to start negotiations on signing an agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons between Vietnam and the French Republic to strengthen the legal corridor for the bilateral cooperation in the fight against crime.

Minister To Lam also proposed that the French Republic continue to support the Vietnamese side in building capacity of Vietnamese police officers responsible for cybersecurity and high-tech crime, drug-related crime, terrorism, human trafficking and illegal migration, child abuse as well as those to be deployed to UN peacekeeping operations.

The ambassador thanked Minister To Lam for the warm meeting and expressed delight at being appointed as  French ambassador to Vietnam at a time the cooperation between the two countries in general and between law enforcement agencies in particular is thriving in many aspects. 

The ambassador affirmed that, in his capacity, he will promote cooperation and relations between the two countries, and support cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and French law enforcement agencies, contributing to firmly maintaining peace, security and stability in the region and world.
