The capital city of Hanoi will not open pedestrian streets around Hoan Kiem (Sword) lake and the Old Quarter before, during and after the Lunar New Year (Tet) because many people in the city are going to the countryside.
The capital city’s Hoan Kiem Lake is being dredged and cleaned from now to the end of the year, according to the Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Company Ltd.
Upgrading the water environment of Hoan Kiem (Sword) Lake is necessary and urgent work, Vo Tien Hung, General Director of the Hanoi Sewage and Drainage Co Ltd., said.
The newly opened pedestrian streets in Hanoi are attracting more citizens every weekend.
The walking zone surrounding the Hoan Kiem Lake in downtown Hanoi has quickly become a hit to local and international tourists since its debut in September.
