In the central province of Binh Dinh’s An Nhon town, many farmers have brought yellow apricot blossom trees, a symbol of Tet in the south, along the National Highway 1A and inter-communal roads for sale. Many traders have rushed into the town to purchase the trees.

Over one month before Tet, more than 1,200 farmers in Nhon An town, Binh Dinh province, are very busy harvesting apricots, with the expectation of earning tens of thousands of USD. Phan Van Sau, farmer in Thanh Liem village in An Nhon town told PSNews that, he expected to sell more than 6,000 apricot blossom pots this Tet.

The farmer said, the weather this year did not bring much rainfall and was quite warm and sunny, creating condition for the development of apricot trees and promising a bumper season.

An officer in charge of agriculture in Nhon An commune revealed that, about 10,000 apricot growing households would supply up two hundreds thousand pots to the market, earning profits of about 100 billion VND. Since the end of the 11th lunar month, merchants have been ordering apricots in bulk.

According to the farmers in An Nhon, in addition to traditional flower varieties like ‘mai tu quy’ (apricot of all seasons), ‘nhi do mai’, which begins to produce red fruit soon after blossoming; and ‘mai chieu thuy’, the aquatic variety of apricot, Nhon An growers have been selling thousands of pots of bonsai apricots which are very popular with customers.

Tthe town is implementing a project to develop yellow apricot trees to boost the price of bonsai apricot, generate more jobs, increase incomes, and improve the living standard of local people.

Nhon An apricot village has been officially recognized as a craft village for many years. The expansion into bonsai apricot and the strategy of building a brand for Nhon An yellow apricot blossoms, will create higher profits for local farmers.
