The opening of Imperial Citadel night street zone has been postponed due to the city focusing on COVID-19 prevention and control efforts, Vo Le Nhat, chairman of the Hue City People's Committee, said on November 24.

Nhat added that the opening of the night street zone will instead be held in at a suitable time when the pandemic has been fully controlled in the city.

The night street zone around Hue Imperial Citadel, a UNESCO-recognised World Cultural Heritage, is set to be launched on January 1, 2022, in order to boost the city’s nighttime economy.

The zone, which will open from 7pm to 11pm every Friday and Saturday, is due to span a total of four streets, namely August 23, Dang Thai Than, Le Huan, and Doan Thi Diem.

Moving forward, the night street zone is anticipated to provide visitors with a chance to watch various types of art performances, experience folk games, traditional crafts, and sample delicious Hue cuisine, whilst the site will also be a unique highlight for Hue’s nightlife.

It is hoped that the new tourism product will contribute to reviving the tourism industry which has been seriously impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years.

According to the Hue City People’s Committee, the pilot phase will see the city launch its night street zone on Le Huan and August 23 streets.
