Da Nang shutters largest fishing port in central Vietnam due to COVID-19

PSNews - The Da Nang authorities have decided to put under lockdown Tho Quang fishing port for one week with the aim of focusing on epidemic control, following the detection of 19 coronavirus cases.

The Da Nang Municipal People's Committee on July 25 held a meeting to review COVID-19 precention missions and control. Le Trung Chinh, Chairman of the commitee chaired the meeting. 

As reported, the 19 coronavirus cases related to the fishing port and Da Son Slaughterhouse to  were detected after local health authorities tested around 13,000 samples within 24 hours on July 24.

Therefore, Da Nang approved the decision to suspend the operation of Tho Quang for one week. In detail, the fishing port ceased operations for seven days starting from 3:00 pm on Monday, during which agencies concerned will disinfect the entire port and carry out other epidemic prevention measures.

It will resume operations after seven days provided authorities are capable of controlling the infection cluster at the port, the city’s leader said.

Earlier, on July 26, all people related to the infections at the port and the slaughterhouse, and all fish traders at markets completed COVID-19 testing process and stayed at home for quarantine time. 

As the largest fishing port in central Vietnam, Tho Quang is not only a dock for fishing vessels throughout the region, but also a large fish market for traders from Binh Dinh to Ha Tinh Provinces. Da Nang authorities have applied urgent epidemic prevention measures since July 22 to stall COVID-19 spread.
