From April 4 to 18, the Department of Immigration in collaboration with the Quang Binh Immigration Division, the Australia Embassy in Vietnam and IOM Vietnam held 4 dialogues with hundreds of people in Quang Binh Province, a Vietnamese locality with a large number of immigrant laborers working in other countries.

The program aimed to improve the knowledge of labor export for the people, at the same time helped the local competent agencies understand the existing immigration issues so as to protect the rights and legitimate interests of Vietnamese immigrant workers.

At the public information drives, people were provided with information about immigration, loan policies, safe and lawful labor export, consequences of illegal migration to Australia; as well as the loan procedures for export workers and measures to protect workers from human trafficking.

Through these public information drives, the Australia Government wanted to convey a message to those who intend to illegally migrate to Australia, as follows: “If you come to Australia illegally by boat, you will be forced to return. Those who seek to enter into Australia illegally by boat are never allowed to live and work in Australia. Please do not believe lies of those who transport illegal migrants.”
