Hanoi records first community case of Omicron variant
The Hanoi Department of Health has unveiled that the capital has so far recorded 14 cases of the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 pandemic, including one case in the community.
This information was released during an online meeting on January 26 hosted by the Hanoi Steering Committee for COVID-19 prevention and control.
At the meeting Vu Cao Cuong, deputy director of the Hanoi Department of Health, said that Hanoi is currently facing a second-level pandemic risk with an average of 2,902 cases per day between January 19 and January 25.
The capital has therefore moved to intensify preventive measures aimed at dealing with the highly contagious variant, including tightening control over people entering the country, speeding up the vaccination of booster jabs, and providing effective treatment for severe and critical COVID-19 patients.
Tran Thi Nhi Ha, director of the municipal Department of Health, said the number of infected cases is continuing to increase, of which the number of community cases accounts for approximately 30%, adding that further COVID-19 outbreaks are possible due to the high demand for travel and trade exchange activities during the lunar New Year festival (Tet).
Chu Ngoc Anh, chairman of the municipal People's Committee, underscored the importance of regularly updating data on vaccination coverage, especially for the elderly, setting up mobile medical teams, while simultaneously devising plans to vaccinate children aged between five and 11 in the near future.
In line with these efforts, he requested districts in the city to continue drawing up schemes to ensure absolute safety for students to return their schools after Tet.
