Trung Luong-My Thuan Highway inaugurated

PSNews - The Tien Giang Provincial People's Committee on April 27 in collaboration with Trung Luong - My Thuan BOT Joint Stock Company held the inauguration of the Trung Luong - My Thuan highway project. Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh attended the event.

Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh said the completion of the highway has important meaning to socio-economic development in the region.  

He affirmed that building a complete transport infrastructure network in the country in general and the Mekong Delta in particular is a major policy of the Party and State. The goal to 2025 is to increase the total length of the national highway network to 3,000 km, and 5,000 km by 2030, he said.

The Deputy Prime Minister also highly appreciated the initiative and innovation of the Party Committee, the authorities and people of Tien Giang province, as well as the Ministry of Transport and Communications and relevant ministries and agencies in the implementation of the project. 

The Trung Luong-My Thuan Highway is a part of the eastern section of the North-South Expressway. The expressway is expected to reduce the pressure on National Highway 1 in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang.

The project’s construction began in 2009 and the completion date has been delayed several times, but it is finally scheduled to open to traffic on April 30, with a maximum speed of 80 kilometres per hour.

Vietnam will invest an estimated 100 trillion VND (4.3 billion USD) in the Mekong Delta region over the next five years to develop transport infrastructure, including the My Thuan-Can Tho Expressway, My Thuan 2 Bridge, Can Tho-Ca Mau Expressway and Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang Expressway.
