Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy affirms Vietnam's commitment to combating terrorism in all forms at an online UN meeting on August 24.
Quy was making Vietnam’s commitment at an online meeting of the United Nations Security Council in New York on August 24 to review the international fight against the so-called IS state.

Voicing Vietnam’s condemnation of terrorism in all forms, Ambassador Quy requested countries to strengthen cooperation, share information on border management, and enhance control of threats of attacks as well as the financing of terrorism.

He emphasized the need to comprehensively address the threat of terrorism, eliminate favorable conditions for terrorism, facilitate economic development, resolve conflicts, and build a fair and united society that is able to resist risks of extreme violence and terrorism.

Addressing the event, United Nations Deputy Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism Vladimir Voronkov warned the risk of IS terrorism remains imminent, particularly in Iraq and Syria, and that many attacks are carried out by single individuals or small groups on the Internet.

Michele Coninsx, Executive Director of the UN's Counter-

Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate, noted the IS is increasing its operations in its traditional Middle East and newer locations such as South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Lake Chad basin, and Sahel.

She urged countries to improve their counterterrorism measures and strengthen cooperation and partnerships, and develop a comprehensive strategy relating to repatriation, prosecution, reform and reintegration of terrorist offenders.
