Lieutenant General To An Xo, Chief of Ministry of Public Security (MPS)’s Office, said the ministry has launch an investigation into cyber attacks on the website for national registration of “green lane” status granted to vehicles transporting essential goods, saying attackers must receive stringent punishment.

When vehicles receive a QR code from the website, they can go in the “Green lane” to pass COVID-19 checkpoints in localities currently applying social distancing measures.

The MPS has recently received the request on investigation into the case from the Directorate for Roads under the Ministry of Transport.

The MPS considers the attacks on the “green lane” vehicle registration website a serious act given the complicated situation of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Directorate for Roads said the website was reportedly attacked by hackers with about 500 requests per second on average on July 26, repeatedly stopping the system from functioning normally.

Such attacks made officers at the Departments of Transport unable to process applications of transportation firms for “green lane” status while barring transportation firms from accessing the system for many hours.

Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Ngoc Dong on July 27 officially requested probe into the attacks to the MPS and the Ministry of Information and Communications, asking the agencies to prevent further attacks.
