Many large drug-related cases busted during Lunar New Year 2021

PSNews - The Counter-Narcotics Police Department (CNPD) under the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) recently held a ceremony to honor police teams and officers with outstanding achievements in preventing drug-related crimes in recent times. The event also marked the 24th founding anniversary of the Counter-narcotics Police Force (March 12, 1997 - March 12, 2021).

According to a report delivered by Major General Nguyen Van Vien, Director of the CNPD at the event, from December 15, 2020 to February 28, 2021, the CNPD’s force alone or in coordination with other units under the MPS and local police forces successfully investigated 29 drug-related cases with 69 people involved and seized nearly 73 kg of heroin, 236 kg and 112,600 pills of synthetic drug, two guns, 10 bullets and many other exhibits.

Particularly, on December 23, 2020, the CNPD coordinated with other specialized agencies under the MPS, the Hanoi police, and Lang Son provincial police to successfully destroy a criminal ring transporting illicit drugs from Son La, Thanh Hoa to Ninh Binh, Hanoi and other provinces for trade. Regarding the case, Nguyen Van Hung (born in 1987) and Nguyen Manh Cuong (born in 1988), both residing in Ninh Binh, were arrested. The police also seized 27kg of meths, 20 packs of heroin, and one car used by the criminals to transport drugs.

On January 8, 2021, the CNPD in coordination with other specialized units under the MPS and the Bac Ninh provincial police to break a criminal ring illegally storing and trading narcotics and using hi-tech means to appropriate others’ assets. The police then seized 37 POS and mPOS devices, four bank-card makers, two computers, more than 1,600 payment invoices (with the total value equivalent to VND 7.4 billion), and 150 packs suspected of heroin.

By the end of 2020, the CNPD discovered a criminal group led by Hoang Van Hiep (born in 1986, residing in Thai Nguyen) illegally buying, selling, and transporting large quantities of narcotics from Laos to Vietnam. The illicit drugs were then transported to Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang and Lang Son and a third country for sale. 

The large-scale criminal group operated in different localities using sophisticated methods and tricks. They have successfully transported dozens of heroin packs and thousands of synthetic drug pills.

On January 23, 2021, in ​​Go Pao village (Hop Thinh commune, Hiep Hoa district, Bac Giang province), the police arrested Quach Xuan Tuan (born 1987) and Duong Tuan Viet (born 1995), both residing in Thai Nguyen, when they were trading illicit drugs. The police also seized 6,000 synthetic drug pills and the criminals’ cars.

After the arrest of the two criminals, police officers raided their whereabouts and arrested six other people related to the case. So far, the police have arrested eight people involved in the criminal group, seized 57 heroin packs, 30,000 synthetic drug pills and many other related exhibits.

In December 2020, the CNPD discovered a criminal ring illegally transporting drugs from Cambodia through the southwestern border provinces to Ho Chi Minh City for sale.

After more than a month of investigation, on January 30, 2021, the CNPD in coordination with other related police units and the Border Guard force arrested Le Tai Linh (born in 1996) and Tran Quoc Khanh (born in 1993), both residing in Ho Chi Minh City, and seized 19.5 kg of synthetic drugs. Conducting further investigation, 10 people related to the case were arrested and 210.5 kg of drugs and other exhibits were seized.

In recognition of their achievements, leaders of the MPS sent a letter of commendation and issued a decision to reward the 42 teams with excellent achievements in fighting drug crimes. The director of the CNPD also awarded Certificates of Merit to 6 teams and 48 individuals. At the ceremony, the CNPD was awarded the flag “Excellent unit in the Government's "For Homeland Security" emulation movement”.
