Vietnam, UK promote bilateral cooperation

PSNews - Minister of Public SecurityGeneral To Lam on March30 received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdoms (UK) to Vietnam Gareth Edward Ward.

At the reception, Minister To Lam highlighted the development and fruitful outcomes of the Vietnam - UK Strategic Partnership over the past time, especially in the fields of economy, education, defense, and security.

He also expressed his delight at the close cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security (MPS) and the UK Home Office in prevention and control of crimes, including human trafficking, illegal immigration, and child abuse, as well as at the cooperation in capacity building and equipment support for the Vietnamese MPS.

Overview of the event.

Regarding the bilateral collaboration in the coming time, the Minister suggested that the two sides should effectively implement the signed agreements, especially the Memorandum of Understanding between the two governments on prevention and suppression of trafficking in persons.

The two sides should also strengthen the exchange of information and working experience as well as conduct joint investigation of transnational human trafficking rings.

Minister Lam also proposed the guest advise his government to continue the capacity building and English language training projects for Vietnamese public security officers.

For his part, Ambassador G.E.Ward thanked the host for the warm reception and expressed his belief that the bilateral cooperation between the two sides will further develop and gain more achievements in the time to come. 

The Ambassador affirmed that, in his working position, he would continue bolster the bilateral ties between the two countries.

On this occasion, the Ambassador handed Minister To Lam a letter from the UK Home Secretary praising the Vietnamese MPS for assisting the UK law enforcement forces in investigating the Essex lorry case in October 2019.
