The Ministry of Public Security organized a ceremony to receive two patrol boats from the Korea Coast Guard, on August 29th, in Hai Phong city.

The ceremony saw the presence of Member of the Politburo and Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, Deputy Minister of Public Security Major General Nguyen Ngoc Lam, and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hai Phong city Nguyen Van Tung as well as other officials from local agencies.

Meanwhile, the delegation of the Republic of Korea (RoK) included Commissioner General of the Korea Coast Guard Kim Jong Uk, Director of the Terrorism Information Integration Center Park Jong Min, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of RoK to Vietnam Choi Young Sam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Luong Tam Quang underlined that, over the past time, the Vietnam – RoK bilateral relationship has developed strongly, comprehensively and practically in all fields, especially law enforcement, and that the upgrading of the bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2022 opened a new chapter in Vietnam - RoK relations.

Regarding branch-level cooperation, the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam (MPS) and the Korean Coast Guard signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in June 2023.

After the signing of the MoC, MPS held a ceremony to receive 02 used speedboats and 02 jet skis from the Korean Coast Guard on October 2023.

In addition, the Korean Coast Guard also sent expert delegations to Vietnam to evaluate the situation as well as organize training courses for the Vietnamese waterway police force.

Expressing his delight at the Korean Coast Guard’s aid of two patrol boats, Minister Luong Tam Quang said that the two boats will be used to train the waterway police force, so as to improve the efficiency of its patrolling in the coastal and internal waters as well as to help it effectively preventing and fighting crimes on rivers and at sea.

The Vietnamese Public Security Minister also highly appreciated the effort of the Korean Coast Guard to promote bilateral cooperation between the two agencies, voicing that the transfer of the specialized vehicles this time has laid premise for  cooperation projects between the two agencies in the coming time.

Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner General of the Korean Coast Guard Kim Jong Uk and RoK’s Ambassador to Vietnam Choi Young Sam agreed that the cooperation between Korean law enforcement agencies and MPS had developed in depth and for more practical and fruitful outcomes over the past time.

He affirmed that the transfer of the two patrol boats this time has marked a new turning point in the cooperation between the two countries in general and between the Korean Coast Guard and MPS in particular.
