Lieutenant General Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Public Security (MPS) of Vietnam, had a meeting with Lao Deputy Minister of Public Security, Lieutenant General Thonglek Mangnormex, on January 08.

The meeting saw the presence of representatives of functional units under the two ministries.

Addressing the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc affirmed that after the two ministries signed the supplementary document to the 2020 cooperation plan and the 2021 Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in drug prevention and control, the Vietnamese MPS issued a plan requiring under-ministerial units and police forces of the 10 border provinces bordering Laos to implement tasks in line with the agreements between the two ministries.

He also said that the Vietnamese MPS has basically completed the technical construction of the National Population Database Center and Citizen Identification Management Center.

So far, the Vietnamese MPS has started construction of 167 stations for Lao police in the villages bordering with Vietnam, of which 36 stations have been completed.

Overview of the meeting.

In the coming time, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc suggested the two sides should soon agree on the schedule for holding the bilateral ministerial-level conference between the two ministries on drug prevention and control. The two sides also shall review, evaluate and propose amendments and supplements to the agreements on controlling drugs, psychotropic substances, and precursors signed between Vietnam and Laos.

For his part, Lieutenant General Thonglek Mangnormex highly appreciated the cooperation results between the two ministries over the past time, especially in the field of crime prevention and control.

He also hoped that the cooperation relationship between the public security forces of the two countries will further facilitate socio-economic development and foreign affairs of each country.

On this occasion, Lieutenant General Thonglek Mangnormex and a high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Laos visit the National Population Data Center.
