As US travel Magazine Travel & Leisure announced, this year’s World’s Best Awards survey closed on March 2, just before widespread stay-at-home orders were implemented as a result of COVID-19. The results reflect their readers’ experiences before the pandemic, but they hope that this year’s honorees will inspire travelers' trips to come — whenever they may be.

Accordingly, Hoi An ranked the first place in the list of 15 best cities for travel in the world and the third place in the list of 25 world's best cities, after two cities in Mexico: San Miguel De Allende and Oaxaca.

Travel & Leisure stated that, on the surface, the world’s top 25 cities don’t seem to have much in common. But all of these municipalities have rich and fascinating histories, whether they go back thousands of years or just a few hundred.
