Vietnam won Best Picture at AIFFA 2017

“Đảo của dân ngụ cư” (The Way Station) also has won “Best Picture” as well as other important awards at the ASEAN International Film and Festival Awards.

The other awards that the Vietnam film has won include “Best Actor in a Leading Role (Pham Hong Phuoc) and Director of Pictures (Ly Thai Dung). The ASEAN International Films Festival & Awards (AIFFA 2017) was organized on the island of Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.

Having outdone 109 films at the first round and 50 films at the final round, “The Way Station” set a record at the 2017 AIFFA with eight major nominations, namely Best Picture, Best Director (Hong Anh), Best Actress (Ngoc Thanh Tam), Best Actor (Pham Hong Phuoc), Best Supporting Actress (Ngoc Hiep Artist), Best Screenplay (Writer Nguyen Quang Lap), Best Director of Pictures (People's Artist Ly Thai Dung) and Best Film Editing. The film was named three times for the top prizes: Best Picture, Best Actor for singer Pham Hong Phuoc and Best Director of Pictures (DOP) for People's Artist Ly Thai Dung.

Earlier, Director Hong Anh and the two main actors had been seen together in the red carpet talking with filmmakers and actors from different countries.

The night also saw the presence of other famous figures in the region’s film industry like Donnie Yen or Filipino singer Marlo Mortel.

The Vietnamese film’s script was written by Nguyen Quang Lap, adapted from the short story with the same name by writer Do Phuoc Tien.
