Nearly $ 2 million in support for mangrove biodiversity protection project in Thai Binh

PSNews – The Government of the Republic of Korea has provided $1.9 million in support to Vietnam to implement a project to recover and develop sustainable mangrove forest ecosystem in the northern province of Thai Binh.

The project, funded by the RoK Government through the Agreement on ASEAN-ROK Forest Cooperation (AfoCo),has been being implemented from 2015 to 2024 in 4 communes: ThuyXuan, Thuy Thai (Thai Thuy district), Dong Hoang, Dong Long (Tien Hai district) with a view to restoring, planting and managing coastal mangroves ecosystems in Thai Binh province, raising awareness and capacity of restoration, protection and development of mangrove forests, biodiversity conservation and responding to climate change, improving the livelihoods of local people.

The total cost of the project is over $ 2 million, including $ 1.9 million from the funding of the RoK and 150,000 USD from the counterpart fund of Vietnam. The project is expected to create a solid mangrove belt to protect about 54 km of the sea dyke system along Tien Hai and Thai Thuy districts.

The project is expected to raise the awareness and capability of all people concerned on replanting, recovering and protecting mangrove forest and developing sustainable livelihoods for the people.
