UNODC Officer-in-charge in Vietnam receives insignia
PSNews – The Government Inspectorate of Vietnam on July 17 conferred the insignia “Recognition of contributions of inspection cause” on H.E Christopher Batt, Officer-in-charge of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vietnam.

Deputy Chief of the Government Inspectorate Nguyen Van Thanh emphasized that the UNODC is an important partner of the Government Inspectorate of Vietnam. Over the past time, it has made great contributions to the anti-corruption efforts of Vietnam as well as to activities of the Government Inspectorate, and the country’s implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption.
Various joint projects of the two sides have gained fine outcomes and laid grounds for further cooperation in the future.
Since Vietnam became a signatory of the UN Convention against Corruption, the UNODC has assisted the Government Inspectorate in both expertise and finance. Particularly, it has provided supports for the implementation of the first evaluation cycle (2011-2017) and the ongoing second evaluation cycle (2017-2021).
Recently, on the occasion of the APEC Year 2017, the UNODC supported the Government Inspectorate of Vietnam to hold a successful workshop themed “Enhancing Social Participation in Anti-corruption” on the sidelines of the first Officials Meeting (SOM 1) and Seminar themed “Strengthening the cooperation between law enforcement agencies to enhance recovery of property” on the sideline of the SOM 3. Its great support contributed significantly to the Government Inspectorate of Vietnam’s success in completing its role as the Chair of the Working Group on Anti-corruption, and received a lot of praises from international friends and partners.
The Government Inspectorate of Vietnam applauded the role and contribution of Mr. Christopher Batt as the leader of the UNODC in Vietnam.
Mr. Christopher Batt expressed his gratitude to the Government Inspectorate and the inspection sector of Vietnam for their acknowledgement. He said that this also demonstrated the fine cooperation between the UNODC and the Government Inspectorate of Vietnam in the past time.
He noted that the anti-corruption movement requires joint efforts of the whole political system. He emphasized that the Government Inspectorate is realizing the resolve of the Party, State and Government of Vietnam on anti-corruption, contributing greatly to the development of Vietnam in the future.
