The Vietnamese team with five students from Hanoi brought home four medals. 12th grader Tran Xuan Tung won a gold medal while 11th grader Ho Phi Dung bagged one silver medal, and Le Tran Dao and Nguyen To Vinh Huy, 12th graders, received two bronze medals. All the four medal winners are from the Hanoi-based Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

This is the best scores Vietnam has achieved since it first participated in the contest in 2016.

Previously, the team from Hanoi represented Vietnam at the 11th IOAA held in Thailand in 2017, and won two silver medals.

The IOAA is an annual Olympiad for high school students around the world, which is organized to recognize the role of Astronomy and Astrophysics.
