Lawmakers debate bills on HIV/AIDS control, Vietnamese guest workers

Legislators debated amendments and supplements to the Laws on HIV/AIS Prevention and Control and on Vietnamese Workers Working Abroad under Contracts on the fourth day of the 14th National Assembly (NA)’s 10th sitting held virtually on October 23.

Legislators debated amendments and supplements to the Laws on HIV/AIS Prevention and Control and on Vietnamese Workers Working Abroad under Contracts on the fourth day of the 14th National Assembly (NA)’s 10th sitting held virtually on October 23.
The discussions were moderated by NA Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu. Acting Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long presented the proposal for and head of the NA’s Committee for Social Affairs Nguyen Thuy Anh delivered a verification report on the draft revised Law on HIV/AIS Prevention and Control.In the morning, the lawmakers made comments on a wide range of contents of the revised Law on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control, notably rights and responsibilities of HIV carriers, people eligible to access HIV/AIDS-related information and those allowed to access anti-retroviral drugs, support to the provision of treatment and care for HIV carriers and resources for HIV/AIDS response.
In the afternoon, NA deputies focused discussions on the bill on Vietnamese workers working abroad under contracts. They voiced opinions on a number of issues, such as organizations eligible to send Vietnamese workers abroad under working contracts, a fund for supporting overseas employment, and rights and responsibilities of the guest workers and providers of guest worker services.
Luu asked the NA Committee for Social Affairs and relevant ministries and agencies to continue receiving opinions to finalise the bills for the NA’s consideration and approval by the end of the 10th sitting.
