Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc expressed his belief that the visit by General Surapong Suwana-Adth, Chief of Defence Forces of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, will contribute to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between two countries and armies.
At a reception for the Thai military delegation on April 5 in Hanoi, PM Phuc emphasized Vietnam’s priority of developing ties with Thailand and other ASEAN members.
Praising Thailand’s consistent stance on regional issues, including the East Sea, the Prime Minister said he hopes Thailand will continue to uphold its role and push for the implementation of the ASEAN Community’s goals.
He reiterated the Vietnamese government’s support for the two armies to increase cooperation and for the two countries to realise their strategic partnership.
The cabinet leader also hailed the outcomes of the earlier talks between General Suwana-Adth and Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army. He also evaluated the two defence ministries’ cooperation, especially since their cooperation agreement was inked in 2012.
He suggested both sides should promote high-level meetings and dialogues, boost defence policy coordination, bolster cooperation between military forces, share information and support each other in multilateral issues.
General Suwana-Adth briefed his host on the encouraging outcomes of cooperation between the Thai and Vietnamese armies, noting that they have carried a number of cooperation activities in personnel training and strengthened collaboration between military services and arms.VNA
He said during his talks with Lt. Gen. Giang, the two sides consented to augment comprehensive cooperation between air, naval and ground forces and increase the exchange of intelligence information so as to ensure defence and security in their respective countries, along with peace and stability in the region and the world.
The two armies also agreed to increase the bilateral cooperation mechanism, thereby helping to solidify the Vietnam-Thailand strategic partnership in the future, he said.
