Top legislator, Vice President host Japan Ambassador

National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan has told Japanese Ambassador Umeda Kunio that Vietnam is actively preparing for the upcoming official visit to Vietnam by Japanese Emperor and Empress.

At a February 24 reception for the Japanese diplomat in Hanoi, the Vietnamese NA leader said the legislative body applauds and treasures the visit. 

She asked the Ambassador to promote the fine developments in bilateral relations, exchanges between ministries, localities and people between Vietnam and Japan for better mutual understanding and practical cooperation.

Umeda Kunio, in turn said the Emperor and the Empress’s upcoming visit symbolizes significant friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Some 120 journalists are expected to accompany the Emperor and Japanese people hope for a successful visit, he told his host.

Receiving the Japanese Ambassador the same day, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh highlighted Japan as Vietnam’s reliable partner in economics, culture, tourism, and others.

Thinh said Vietnam is preparing for a state-level visit by the Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, adding that the Vietnamese people and leaders attach great importance to this visit, considering it a milestone in the friendly relationship between Vietnam and Japan.

The Ambassador said the upcoming visit proves the bilateral ties is steadily progressing.
