PSNew – The Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security on April 10 held a conference themed "Ensuring traffic safety on the Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC)-Trung Luong and HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay highways." Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son, Deputy Minister of Public Security attended the meeting.

Senior Colonel Tran Thanh Tra, Deputy Director of the Traffic Police Department said that, in the first quarter of 2018, the traffic police force working on highway actively grasped the situation and advised the department leadership to draw up plans to patrol, check and handle traffic offences; at the same time, he urged traffic police officers and soldiers to strictly follow the directions of leaders of the Ministry of Public Security and Traffic Police Department to effectively deal with acts of traffic violation that likely lead to traffic accidents and traffic jams.

The application of science and technology in patrolling, checking and handling traffic violation, particularly the use of traffic monitoring camera systems on highways, brought initial good results, minimizing the presence of traffic police on the road. The monitoring camera systems have helped detect and handle 750 cases of violation. Therefore, the situation of traffic safety on highways remained stable while traffic accidents were controlled and the numbers of dead and injured people were also reduced, compared to the same period in 2017.

Speaking at the conference, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son praised the achievements of the Traffic Police forces working on highways over the past time.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son urged the Traffic Police Department to collaborate closely with the police forces of HCMC, Dong Nai, Long An and Tien Giang provinces to propose good ideas and solutions to higher-level authorities with the aim of ensuring traffic safety on highways, while promoting mass dissemination on traffic safety among people.

The unit should also coordinate with relevant agencies to remove “black spots” of traffic accidents and jams on highways; improve the qualities of traffic police officers, and promote collaboration with local police forces to ensure traffic safety.
