Minister To Lam urges Public Security Forces to pay due attention to COVID-19 prevention and control

General To Lam, Member of the Politburo and Minister of Public Security, on March 30 chaired a video meeting to review the task performance of the People’s Public Security Forces in the first quarter of 2020 and roll out a working plan for the next quarter.

The meeting in Hanoi saw the presence ofmembers of the Public Security Central Party Committee (PSCPC), leaders of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) and representatives of the under-ministerial public security agencies and units.

At the meeting, Senior Lieutenant General Bui Van Nam, Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of Public Security delivered a report on results of the task performance of the whole Public Security Forces in the first quarter of 2020. 

He underlined the outcomes of the campaign to crack down on crimes and ensure security and social order during the Lunar New Year festival (Tet) 2020. Finally, the deputy minister proposed a working plan for the Public Security Forces in the second quarter of 2020.

The report read that, over the past time, the Public Security Forces have taken various preventive measures against sabotage activities by the hostile and reactionary forces, contributing to maintaining political stability and social order.

Meanwhile, police forces have effectively conducted intensive campaigns against crimesduringTet 2020 while proactively drafting out plans to ensure security and safety for events and activities in the framework of the ASEAN Year 2020 and the celebration of the Vietnam Communist Party’s 90th founding anniversary.

Particularly, the rate of successful investigation reached 86.03% with many serious and extremely serious cases solved. Numerous criminal groups and gangs were eliminated while a big success was also achieved in the fight against economic crimes, corruption, environmental crimes and drug-related crimes.

The police forces have strictly implementedthe Law on Prevention and Control of Harms of Liquor and Beer Abuse and the Government's Decree No. 100/2019/ND-CP on handling road and railway traffic violations. Over the first quarter of 2020, they have handled 910,954 violations against traffic order and safety regulations, including 48,683 drink-driving cases, with a total fine of VND 773 billion and 157,497 vehicles seized.

The public security press and media sector have published 885 reports in the forms of journalism, radio or TV, reflecting the excellent achievements and good examples of the Public Security Forces, and 1,975 reports of all kinds covering the participation of the People's Public Security Forces in COVID-19 prevention and control.

With their outstanding achievements in the first quarter of 2020, 38,359 public security units and individuals were praised by authorities at all levels.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Le QuyVuongbriefed delegates on the implementation of the MPS's Plan No. 105/KH-BCA-C06 on an intensive campaign to detect and handle violations against regulations on weapons, explosives and supporting tools.

According to Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son, Deputy Minister of Public Security and Head of the MPS’s Steering Committee for Disease Prevention and Control, the Public Security Forces have effectively taken preventive measures against COVID-19 in a timely and efficient manner. They have also handledlaw violations related to the disease prevention, including spreading false information, smuggling and counterfeiting medical stuffs.

Delegates also listened to a report on the deployment of professional police officers to communal-level police posts delivered by Major General Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Public Security. He released that the police forces so far have posted 25,200 full-time police officers to 95.6% of the communes across the country.

To conclude the meeting, on behalf of the PSCPC and the MPS, Minister To Lam spoke highly of the efforts and achievements made by all public security officers and soldiers over the past time.

Regarding key tasks of the forces in the coming time, Minister To Lam asked public security units and agencies to take more drastic measures against COVID-19, in the Public Security Forces and actively and effectively join the common effort in preventing and fighting the disease.

The police units nationwide should strictly manage foreigners and Vietnamese people coming from other countries while resolutely handling acts of speculating and smugglingmedical supplies and equipment, spreading false and fake information, evading quarantine and making inexact medical declarations.

The Minister also requested the police forces to takemeasures to crack down on crimes and address complicated problems related to social order on key routes and localities.

Minister To Lam also asked the publicsecurity press sector to enhance coverage of police work and achievements as well as contents of important political events and movements towards the 75thTraditional Day of the People's Public Security Forces and 15th Festive Day of “All people protecting National Security”, contributing to fighting fake and false information against the State in general and the People’s Public Security Forces in particular.
