Police forces help people overcome floods

PSNews – The Provincial-Level Committees of Climate Change Response, Natural Disaster Prevention and Rescue (Directing Board) under the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), Fire Police Departments from Ha Tinh to Quang Binh and various relevant agencies received urgent dispatch No.13 on preparation for tropical depressions, heavy rains and floods.

Huong Son Police prepared to deal with natural disasters

Heavy rains, due to the tropical low pressure, caused heavy rains and floods in various areas in Thanh Hoa, including Thanh Hoa city and Sam Son city from October 9. Especially, the dam along the Hoang river in Nong Cong district has broken, flooding a large area and isolating thousands of households.

Long-lasting heavy rains have flooded many streets, in the center of Thanh Hoa city, causing difficulties to the traffic.

Meanwhile, traffic police officers of Thanh Hoa city were trying their best to guide traffic flows in flooded areas to maintain safety and order for people and vehicles.

Many streets turned to rivers

In Sam Son city, hundreds of houses have been flooded. Other districts, including Quang Xuong, Tinh Gia or Thach Thanh, are in a similar situation.

Various communes of Lang Chanh district, including Giao An, Giao Thien, Tam Van and Lam Phu, have been gulfed since October 10. Water from upstream overwhelmed local spillways, paralyzing the crossing transportation and separating localities.

Long-lasting heavy rains have flooded many streets, in the center of Thanh Hoa city, causing difficulties to the traffic.

The dam along the Hoang river on October 10 broke, and water from the river has been spilling over into fields and houses of local people.

Against this backdrop, the police force of Nong Cong district deployed 40 officers and soldiers to the flooded area to join local people in responding to the flooding. The People’s Committee of Te Nong commune also deployed 300 people to coordinate with other forces in preventing flood water from entering the village.

The water level in local rivers is expected to rise. If it continues to rain, this will obstruct rescue activities.

The Director Board of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Police has directed police units to help people in hard-hit localities.

In Ha Tinh, huge amount of rainfall caused floods in districts of Huong Son and Vu Quang. As reported by the Provincial Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Rescue of Ha Tinh, heavy rains and flood have isolated 564 households in Vu Quang, 250 ones in Duc Giang, over 300 households in Duc Bong and 16 in Son Tho.

The police force of Huong Son district, Ha Tinh, had had developed plans, deployed forces and means for possible rescue missions by October 9. The district police coordinated with other local forces to brace for eventualities in rains and floods, sending police officers and means to key projects.

To deploy forces under the dispatch, the Standing Office of the Climate Change Response, Natural Disaster Prevention and Rescue Committee of the Public Security Ministry asked all involved public security units and agencies in the above mention localities to actively prepare forces and vehicles in response to the tropical depression spell with heavy rains and floods.

The mobilized forces are also asked to draw up plans to ensure security and order, traffic safety and minimize human and material losses in flooding, while deploying assets and efforts on duty around the clock to be ready for rescue missions.
