Public Security Forces ensure absolute safety for UN Day of Vesak 2019

PSNews – The Public Security Forces have successfully completed their tasks of ensuring absolute security, safety and order for the UN Day of Vesak 2019.

The 16th UN Day of Vesak 2019 closed at the Tam Chuc Buddhist Cultural Centre in Kim Bang district, Ha Nam province on May 14 after 3 working days with many activities. This year’s UN Day of Vesak was closed successfully with the adoption of the Ha Nam Declaration.

The Public Security Forces (PSF), especially the Ha Nam Provincial Police, have made an important contribution to the success of the event. In particular, the PSF have successfully completed the task of ensuring security and order during the event, as well as absolute safety of delegates participating in activities related to the UN Day of Vesak in Vietnam, which left good impressions on participating delegates, monks, Buddhists, local people and international friends of a peaceful country and friendly people of Vietnam.

According to the organizers, this year’s Vesak celebration saw the largest number of international delegates ever. According to official statistics, 1,650 delegates from 112 countries and territories attended activities of the UN Day of Vesak 2019. Several heads of state, high-ranking officials, top religious dignitaries, ambassadors, representatives of international organizations and delegations, as well as tense of thousands of Vietnamese Buddhists at home and overseas attended the event.

At the opening ceremony, the number of delegates, monks and Buddhists attended the event mounted to more than 100,000 people. During the celebration, Tam Chuc Pagoda also saw the number of visitors of over 400,000.

In spite of the huge number of visitors, functional forces under the Ministry of Public Security and the Ha Nam Provincial Police Department made special efforts to ensure security, social order and safety for the event. The efforts of the PSF were highly appreciated by domestic and international delegates and the people.

According to Senior Colonel Pham Hoai Nam, Deputy Director of the Ha Nam Provincial Police Department, before and during the UN Day of Vesak, the Provincial Police received and followed the directions of the Prime Minister and leaders of the Ministry of Public Security, as well as the Party Committee and leaders of the province.

The local police force also closely coordinated with other departments, branches and agencies as well as the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the Ha Nam Buddhist Sangha, functional public security force and police units of neighboring localities to proactively grasp the situation, prevent conspiracies of hostile forces while always being ready to implement plans to tackle arising scenarios related to security and order, traffic safety and fire before, during and after the UN Day of Vesak.

Most Venerable Thich Duc Thien, Vice President and Secretary General of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Secretary General of the UN Day of Vesak 2019 said that: “This is the first time Ha Nam has hosted such a big religious event with the participation of more than 12,000 people delegates and visitors, at Tam Chuc Pagoda. Thanks to close coordination and great efforts of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the Ha Nam Provincial Police and functional forces of the Ministry of Public Security, the whole celebration of the UN Day of Vesak has taken place successfully and absolutely safely.”

According to Most Venerable Thich Duc Thien, many international delegations and guests were strongly impressed by the Vietnamese police force, especially in guiding, escorting and protecting international delegations.
