Refresher course on human trafficking for criminal police
PSNews-The People’s Police Academy (PPA) and the Australia-Asia Program to Combat Trafficking in Persons (AAPTIP) on May 8 opened a refresher course on investigation techniques in human trafficking cases for local criminal police.

The training course will run till May 12. According to the Investigation Police Department on Social Order and Related Crimes under the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), human trafficking has become a serious problem not only in Viet Nam but also in many countries around the world with increasingly complicated developments, seriously infringing human rights.
The United Nations has identified human trafficking as one of the most dangerous crimes, which is seen especially acute in the Asia-Pacific region, including Vietnam. In Vietnam alone, there have been more than 4,000 victims of human trafficking in the past five years, of which a large majority have been trafficked to China (70%), and the remainder to Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia and Thailand.

In response to the situation, it is necessary to improve knowledge and skills for involved law enforcement forces, particularly the criminal police force - the main force directly dealing with this type of crime.
From 2011 to 2016, the AAPTIP has succeeded in implementing communication campaigns, mobilizing governments to issue relevant policies, and organizing dialogues and training courses to improve capacity for many agencies and organizations of Vietnam to effectively prevent human trafficking.
Experts from the AAPTIP and the PPA coordinated and compile a monograph on trafficking in persons for criminal police.
