Vietnam, Cambodia promote bilateral cooperation in fighting human trafficking

The Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Women’s Affairs of Cambodia held a conference to review the results of the two sides’ implementation of the Agreement between Cambodia and Vietnam on bilateral cooperation in preventing and combating trafficking in women and children and assisting victims of trafficking in the period of 2017 – 2019, on December 17, in Hanoi.

Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, Deputy Head of the Governmental Steering Committee for Crime Prevention and Control, Deputy Minister of Public Security of Vietnam and Her excellency Hou Samith, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Women Affairs of Cambodia co-chaired the conference.

At the conference, the two sides assessed the situation and identified trends of human trafficking between the two countries as well as reviewed the implementation of the agreement on prevention and combat of human trafficking.

Delegates proposed a number of recommendations and solutions to boost the effectiveness of the bilateral coordination and remove the obstacles to the implementation of the agreement.

The two sides also discussed and agreed on the priority plan to promote coordination in the implementation of the Agreement in the period 2020-2022.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong emphasized that Vietnam is committed to seriously and effectively implement the contents of the Agreement, especially the priority plan for the implementation of the agreement in the period 2020-2022.

He also believed that, with the support and close coordination from the Royal Government and local authorities of Cambodia, assistance from international organizations, all contents of the priority plans will be implemented effectively, contributing to promoting solidarity, traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.
