Vietnam, UK step up cooperation in crime prevention

PSNews - Minister To Lam affirmed that the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam will exert all-out effort to effectively implement the Memorandum of Understanding on anti-human trafficking cooperation signed between the two governments in November 2018.

At the reception, Minister To Lam congratulated Mr. Mark Field on successes achieved at the recent Political Consultation between the UK Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam. The host wished a successful and happy New Year to Mr. Mark Field, the British Ambassador to Vietnam and staff of the UK Embassy in Hanoi. General Lam also hoped that the strategic partnership between the two countries will further develop in depth and width.

Minister To Lam affirmed that the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam will exert all-out effort to effectively implement the Memorandum of Understanding on anti-human trafficking cooperation signed between the two governments in November 2018.

On behalf of the Ministry of Public Security, Minister To Lam asked the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to create favorable conditions for law enforcement agencies in the UK, and the Vietnamese Ministries of Public Security and Foreign Affairs to effectively realize the agreed contents as well as to promote negotiations for an agreement on criminal extradition in the coming time.

He also hoped that the British Government will strongly support Vietnam in improving capacity of the police force, promote information exchange and share with the Vietnamese side more technical equipment for cybercrimes and organized crime, which are the advantages of the UK.

He emphasized that Vietnam highly appreciated the UK's positive viewpoint on the East Sea issue, according to which the UK strongly supports for freedom of navigation, security and safety of navigation and aviation in the region. 

He underscored that all countries should have constructive and positive contributions in accordance with international law, particularly the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in 1982, to maintaining peace and stability and respect of law in all seas and oceans.

For his part, Mr. Mark Field thanked General Lam for the warm reception. He underscored that the British Government always attaches great importance to strengthening relationship with Vietnam, while highly valuing the role of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in law enforcement. 

He hoped that in the coming time, the cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the law enforcement agencies of the UK will reap more practical results in cooperation areas, contributing to firmly maintaining national security and social order of each country.
