Vietnam and Cambodia promote cooperation in drug prevention and combat

Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, Deputy Minister of Public Security, led a delegation of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) to visit Cambodia on February 25 and 26, and attend a conference reviewing the results of a coordination drive between the two sides on information dissemination and combat of drug-related crimes along the Vietnam-Cambodia borderline.

The visit to Cambodia of Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong was made at the invitation of General Neth Savoeun, National Police Commissioner of Cambodia.

At the conference held in Phnom Penh, the two sides agreed on the orientation for bilateral coordination in the coming time.  They also agreed to actively prevent, detect and handle acts of trafficking, transporting and storing all kinds of illicit drugs, particularly synthetic drugs.

The two parties committed themselves to promote their coordination in stamping out drug rings, arresting drug criminals and wanted fugitives, controlling key areas regarding drug trafficking, such as roads, waterways, airports and ports in border areas of the two countries.

Both sides also saw the need to promote information dissemination on prevention and combat of drugs and maintain information exchange channels.

During his visit to Cambodia, Deputy Minister Le QuyVuong also made a courtesy call to Mr. Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

The Cambodian Vice PM highly spoke of the visit by Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong and the MPS delegation, saying that it reflected the close relationship and cooperation between the two countries.

Deputy Minister Vuong thanked the Vice PM for his kind reception and highly valued the outcomes of cooperation between the two forces in the fight against drug-related crimes along the shared borderline.

Deputy Minister Vuong emphasized that the MPS of Vietnam will continue to coordinate and exchange information with the Cambodian side about crimes in general and drug crime in particular. He also wished that Cambodia would support Vietnam to successfully fulfil its positions as ASEAN Chair and non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
