A delegation of the Public Security Ministry (MPS), authorized by the State President and assigned by the Government, discussed with the Italian partners a draft agreement on transfer of sentenced persons November 13 and 14.

At the talk.

The delegation of the MPS was led by Lieutenant General Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Director of the Department of Legal Affairs and Administrative, Judicial Reforms.

The agreement complies with the principles of international law and the laws of two countries, and accords with the general trend of signing international treaties in the field of transfer of imprisoned persons for humanitarian purposes. Such a deal also creates better conditions for the convicts to better serve their sentences and later reintegrate into society in their countries.

The deal also facilitates the protection of one country’s citizens imprisoned by the other.

Since the establishment of their diplomatic relations (March 23, 1973) and the strategic partnership (January 21, 2013), Vietnam and Italy have continuously promoted bilateral relations and cooperation in various areas, including politics, economics, culture, education and security - defense.

Regarding cooperation in security and defense, through the Defense Policy Dialogue at the defense deputy ministerial level, Italian leaders always show their willingness to promote cooperation with Vietnam in research, technology transfer and building of military and civil ships.

The Italian side also wants to promote cooperation in training and sharing of experiences of participating in UN peacekeeping activities as well as in the field of mutual legal assistance through the signing of agreements on extradition, transfer of convicts  or criminal justice assistance.

The signing of such agreements will contribute to promoting the Vietnam-Italy strategic partnership.
