PSNews – According to the Korean-Vietnamese Peace Foundation, a statue, named “Vietnam Pieta” was inaugurated on April 26 on Jeju island, South Korea, where a bloody massacre occurred.

The statue, made of bronze, is placed next to the tablet with the poetry of prayers by poet Ko Un (South Korea) and poet Thanh Thao (Vietnam) at St.Francis Peace Center.

The “Vietnam Pieta” or “Loi ru cuoi cung (the last lullaby)” which features a mother holding a little child, aims to convey pity and apology to the Vietnamese women and children who were killed by South Korean mercenaries during the U.S. waged war in Vietnam.

The statue was co-authored by two sculptors, Kim Seo Kyung and Kim Eun Song, and inaugurated in celebration of the 42th anniversary of the liberation of Vietnam.

Jeju island, where the statue placed, was also the site of a massacre in April 1948 and is considered one of the four most horrible massacres in the world that witnessed 12,000 people killed.

Last year, after the official establishment, the Korean-Vietnamese Peace Foundation also presented the Da Nang Museum and Thanh Thao poet a small “Vietnam Pieta” statue.
