Environmental Police Department asked to improve efficiency of fight against environmental crimes

Major General Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Public Security attended the end-year meeting of the Environmental Police Department (EPD) on December 23.

According to reports at the meeting, in spite of the negative impact of the COVID-19pandemic, the EPD still raised the sense of responsibility and effectively fought against environmental crimes and administrative violations of the environmental laws. 

As a result, in 2020, the nationwide environment police force discovered 25,129 cases, of which they prosecuted or requested to prosecute 271 cases with 382 defendants.

For its outstanding achievements, the EPD was awarded the Emulation Flag by the Ministry of Public Security. Meanwhile, many subunits and officers of the EPD were commended by leaders of all levels for their achievements in performing their tasks.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc highly appreciated the outstanding achievements of the EPD in 2020.

In order to complete its tasks in 2021, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc requested the EPD to concretize the force’s working programs and plans suitable for the practical situations.

The EPD also should apply high technology in the fight against environmental crimes while strengthening the leadership, increasing inspection, and building capacity of environmental police officers.

The deputy minister asked the EPD must continue to review and propose amendments to legal documents to create a good legal corridor for environmental crime prevention and control. 

In addition, the EDP should closely coordinate with ministries, branches and functional agencies to enhance the management of environment, natural resources and food safety.

At the event, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc presented Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Public Security to subunits and officers with outstanding achievements.
