Police officers help people deal with floods during New Year Holiday

According to Major Nguyen Thanh Tuan, Commander of Battalion 1 under the South Central Mobile Police Regiment, on January 1, nearly 70 police officers of the unit were working so hard to restore the dyke in the Ong Ngon ground in Phuoc Hoa commune, Tuy Phuoc district, Binh Dinh province.

Witnessing policemen’s hardship, local people felt so sorry and grateful to them.

Speaking to the Public Security Newspaper, Chairman of the Phuoc Hoa Commune People Committee said, the recent floods have badly damaged 70m of the dyke of the Ong Ngon ground, creating a “small river”, which has seriously affected local people and their agricultural production. The floods have also submerged more than 540 hectares of rice field on the banks of the Nha Phu river and also left a negative impact on the paddy land of the area.

While local authorities still did not know how to help local people overcome floods’ consequences, police officers appeared on time to the locality to reinforce the dyke and to clear up the sand deposited on the field, helping locals soon to return to normal work.

"The local authorities and the people really thank Battalion 1 under the South Central Mobile Police Regiment for their care and effective and timely assistance”, Nguyen Van Nham added.

At the same time, in Tay Son district and Vinh Thanh district, nearly 100 soldiers of Company 2 under the South Central Mobile Police Regiment dredged more than 7,500 meters of local irrigation canals, serving agricultural cultivation.
