Vietnam and Philippines enhance cooperation in drug combat

Senior Lieutenant General To Lam, Minister of Public Security, on October 18 received Mr. Catalino S.Cuy, Head of the Dangerous Drugs Board of the Philippines, who leads the Philippine delegation to attend the 6th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Drug Matters in Vietnam.

Speaking at the reception, Minister To Lam stated that the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and  relevant law enforcement agencies of the Philippines coordinated effectively in solving various issues; sent high-level delegations and experts to exchange experiences, and supported each other in the field of training and upgrading skills for law enforcement officers.

Particularly, the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam provided and verified information related to drug criminals at the request of the Philippines.

Minister To Lam hoped both sides would consider signing cooperation agreements to improve effectiveness of cooperation in drug prevention and control while completing cooperation mechanisms on judicial support and extradition of criminals.

Additionally, Minister Lam also revealed that Vietnam suggests defining illegal trade of stolen antiques as a new content within the ASEAN cooperation framework in crime prevention and combat. Vietnam wishes to receive more supports and sharing of experience from the Philippines, Minister Lam said.

Mr. Catalino S.Cuy thanked Minister Lam for his kind reception and expressed his hope that the cooperation and ties between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and law enforcement agencies of the Philippines would further develop and obtain more achievements. He also promised to do his best to promote relations and cooperation between the two sides into a new height.
