The PV DRILLING V, the 8th semi-submersible platform in the world, is the latest generation of its kind equipped with advanced technology. It is also the first design with high-tech applications that helps the rig work on high-pressure and high-temperature wells (HPHT) as it can sustains a pressure of up to 1,020 atm.
The rig was completely built in 2011 and started providing drilling services for the Bien Dong Petroleum Operating Company (Bien Dong POC) at the Hai Thach- Moc Tinh oilfield in early 2012.
It drilled a total of 16 deep water wells in extremely complicated and difficultly geological conditions. In the reality, PV DRILLING V managed to complete the project ahead of the set plan while saving time and operational costs.
During the project, PV DRILLING V worked stably and safely, with an operational efficiency of 96%. This success has affirmed PV Drilling staff's capacity for hi-tech application, management and operation of Vietnam’s first semi-submersible platform.
The rig was put into “cold stack” condition in 2016 due to the negative effects of falling oil prices. Since then, PV Drilling’s leaders have been trying its best to seek contracts for PV DRILLING V with foreign partners.
