Vietnam, Cuba boost financial, trade links

Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung paid an official visit to Cuba August 23-25 with a view to stepping up financial and trade partnership between Vietnam and Cuba.

At a recent meeting with Cuban Minister of Finance and Prices Lina Olinda Pedraza Rodriguez, Dung suggested the two financial ministries maintain and improve the efficiency of existing cooperation mechanisms to enhance economic, trade and investment collaboration between the two countries in line with their sound political relations.

Bilateral cooperation should be focused on taxation management and reform and human resource training for their state treasuries as part of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation for 2016-2020, he noted.

Minister Dung also urged the two sides to go ahead with joint work to carryout projects under the cooperation framework of the Vietnam-Cuba Inter-Governmental Committee.

Minister Lina Olinda Pedraza Rodriguez, in turn hailed the achievements in experience sharing and negotiations of investment projects between the two nations.

She called for stronger cooperation in the customs sector as Cuba is making effforts to ensure safety and security for international flights while realizing its open-door policy.

The two sides can also consider signing cooperation programmes to promote experience sharing, delegation exchanges and joint activities in combating smuggling and other sectors of mutual interests, she said.

The same day, Minister Dung met with Vice President of the Council of Ministers Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, who is also Minister of Economy and Planning.

The Ministry of Finance dispatched a group of tax specialists to Cuba to share experience in tax management.
