President Phuc appreciative of increased US investment in Vietnam
President Nguyen Xuan Phuc has hailed the role of business associations in the United States for promoting US firms' investment in the Vietnamese market in recent years, during a meeting with business representatives and investors.
The Vietnamese State leader met with representatives of the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC), the American Chamber of Commerce (Amcham), the US Chamber of Commerce (USCC), and several US companies and multinational groups in New York on September 22 (local time).
The firms included McLarty, Philip Morris, AES, Thermo Fisher, Asia Group, Northwestern Medicine, Excelerate Energy, GE, and McDermontt, Delta Offshore Energy, and Boeing.
Upon receiving the leaders of the AES Group, President Phuc applauded their activities in the nation, as well as its contributions to the Vietnamese energy sector’s growth. Affirming Vietnamese support to the enterprise’s expansion of operations domestically, he encouraged the group to invest in green and renewable energy in the country. He also praised the firm’s partnership with PVG to develop the Son My liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage facility.
During a meeting alongside representatives of the Asia Group, the Vietnamese leader went on to suggest the firm continues to work as a bridge between the two nations and urged the US Government to further promote practical and long-term co-operation with the nation. The Asia Group should strive to mobilise the US government to donate more COVID-19 vaccines and medical supplies to the country moving forward, along with transferring COVID-19 production technology, he added.
Meeting leaders of Thermo Fisher, President Phuc expressed his appreciation for the firm’s commitments to support vaccine development programmes and exchange experience with partners in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During a reception held for representatives from General Electric (GE) and Excelerate Energy, he stated that he hoped that GE, Excelerate Energy, and partners will continue to increase investment in clean and renewable energy in the Vietnamese market. Indeed, the nation represents an important sector to help with socio-economic development and environmental protection domestically.
Upon meeting with leaders of Northwestern Medicine, the Vietnamese President thanked clinics and member hospitals of Northwestern Medicine for their donation of medical supplies and equipment to the country. He went on to propose that Northwestern Medicine further foster co-operation between the nation and Chicago in research, development, and application of hi-tech in health check-up and treatment.
In receiving partners of Delta Offshore - BacLieu Energy, he hailed Delta Offshore Energy's LNG-fueled power project in Bac Lieu province, the largest foreign-invested project in the Mekong Delta region so far. He expressed his hope that the project will become a model of quality and progress whilst boasting competitive power prices, thereby inspiring more US energy firms to invest in Vietnam.
During a meeting held with representatives from the USABC, Amcham, USCC, McLarty, and Philip Morris, President Phuc spoke highly of the role of US business associations and enterprises in encouraging US firms to invest in the Vietnamese market over recent years.
He therefore suggested that the associations should continue to encourage US businesses to invest in the country, especially in strategic areas, to help the nation engage in regional and global supply chains. This should be done while hastening the US Government to continue its donation of COVID-19 vaccines and medical supplies to the nation, as well as transferring vaccine production technology. He added his hope that associations will contribute their voices to the US Government in optimising the mutual partnership alongside promoting stable and long-term co-operation with the country on the basis of mutual support and interest.
Receiving the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU)'s representatives and a number of other enterprises, President Phuc lauded the efforts and role played by the council in improving US investors’ confidence in the business and investment environment in the Southeast Asian nation. He thanked BCIU for accompanying and supporting the country in accessing vaccines and medical supplies to serve in the ongoing COVID-19 battle.
Meeting representatives from the Boeing Group, the Vietnamese State leader congratulated the firm on its opening of its first representative office in the nation, which shows Boeing’s commitments to long-term investment in the Vietnamese market, despite difficulties posed by COVID-19.
He put forward the suggestion that Boeing continue to help Vietnamese airlines open more direct air routes to the US, while also increasing investment in the fields of infrastructure construction. This is in addition to boosting airplane component production and aviation technical services as a means of helping Vietnam to enter supply chains of groups around the globe, along with considering the opening of a pilot training centre in the nation.
