Vietnam's rice export increased sharply
PSNews - According to the General Department of Customs, in the first half of July, Vietnam exported 249,273 tons of rice, with a turnover of 135.45 million USD.
The latest data from the General Department of Customs shows that, in the first seven months of this year (as of July 16), Vietnam exported more than 4.48 million tonnes of rice, worth 2.4 billion USD, up 17% in volume and 28% in value compared to the same period last year.
The growth in turnover is higher than the growth in volume, therefore the average value of each ton of rice exported this year is also higher than the same period in 2022. Specifically, from the beginning of the year to July 15, the average value reached more than USD 530/ton, while the same period last year was only nearly USD 490/ton.
All three largest export markets of Vietnam are in Asia including: Philippines, China and Indonesia, with the results recorded respectively (updated by market in the first 6 months) as follow: 1,698,593 tons, USD 857.7 million; 677,387 tons, USD 390.6 million; 492,801 tons, USD 244 million
The price of Vietnamese rice is continuing to maintain its upward momentum due to increased demand abroad. Many countries around the world are actively purchasing rice to ensure food security as the El Nino phenomenon is forecast to negatively affect agriculture globally.
