ASEAN journalists visit S. Korea to enrich cultural understanding

From 4^th to 10^th September, a group of journalists from ASEAN countries: Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Singapore and Vietnam visited S.Korea through a programme hosted by the Korean Culture & Information Service (KOCIS), Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (The Republic of Korea) to foster the understanding between Korean and ASEAN.

This activity is to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN in 2017 and to prepare for the Year of ASEAN-Korea Cultural Exchange.

The journalists began their tour programme in Seoul on Sep 4th, where they met the senior officials of the ASEAN-Korea Centre.

They also met officials from the Visit Korea Committee, the King Sejong Institute Foundation (KSIF), and had a lively discussion on various topics including the promotion of the Korean language and culture education in accordance with the increasing demand for knowledge of the Korean language among ASEAN countries.

Especially, 8 journalists also interviewed some of students from Indonesia, Vietnam, who study K-pop and Korean language in the King Sejong Institute Foundation. Then, they visited the SM COEX Artium, the Cel Academy of Korea’s Cultural ODA, MBC – one of the leading S.Korean television and radio networks...

and learnt how to make kimchi by themselves.

On the fourth and the fifth day, the journalists visited Gwangju kimchi town and learnt how to make kimchi by themselves, stood a chance to join K-pop festival held to encourage preparations for the Peyongchang Olympics 2018 and met a well-known boyband named Boy Republic.

The ASEAN journalists concluded their visit programme with a trip to the Asian Culture Centre.
