Danang’s giant “Banh Xeo” set Vietnam’s record
- Southern folk cake festival opens in Can Tho
- Chung cakes made for poor people ahead of Tet
- Banh day cakes, ancient symbols of gratitude
A large Banh Xeo (a Vietnamese pancake) made from about 139 kg of ground rice flour and hundreds of kgs of other clean materials from traditional villages of Danang city and Quang Nam province. |
The Banh Xeo was made on the occasion of the Festival "Danang Youth workers exchange", held by the Vietnam Youth Association in Danang in collaboration with the Thanh Giong Knowledge Gate and a local restaurant on May 1.
The mold to make the record-breaking Banh Xeo, with its surface featured as the Dong Son bronze drum, weighs up to 668kg.
The pancake is an enlarged version of the traditional one, with a larger size, which was made from about 139 kg of rice flour, 50 kg of shrimp, 50 kg of pork, 100 kg of lobster, 20 kg of bean sprouts, 50kg of squid, 20kg of beef, 20 liters of peanut oil, 80kg of raw vegetables, 100kg of rice paper, 100 liters of soy sauce and large amount of other spices.
Although the cake is 3.68m in diameter, it still retains the ingredients and the taste of traditional Banh Xeo.
