With the theme “Transforming reality”, festival will showcase the fresh documentary and experimental films from Vietnam, South East Asia and Europe that reflect the contemporary society and life in the engaging ways beyond the conventional realism.

Audience joining the Hanoi DocFest 2016 can explore personal ideas close to filmmakers and wider social issues through Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Macau, German, French and Portugal films; as well as meet with filmmakers.

The festival also stimulates numberous activities such as two-day practical classes about the development of documentary and hybrid films with Germany Director Philip Widmann; the discussion with Tran Ngoc Hieu and Nguyen Trinh Thi on the representation of the film landscapes; the seminar with the Indonesian curator Hafiz Rancajale and young Vietnamese filmmakers; and an eventful weekend with the films which engage with the Vietnamese contemporary cinema.
