Mong ethnic cultural festival opens in Ha Giang

The second national cultural festival of the Mong ethnic minority group kicked off in the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang on November 18, drawing the participation of delegations from 13 provinces nationwide.

 

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Tran Duc Quy said the event affords a chance to raise the minority groups’ awareness of developing Vietnamese culture and introduce the provinces’ tourist and cultural products to domestic and foreign visitors.

Mong ethnic minority people from the host Ha Giang as well as Tuyen Quang, Dien Bien and Thai Nguyen provinces entertained the audiences with traditional dances, costume shows and music performances. 

During the course of the three-day festival, a range of cultural, sport, folk games and tourism activities will also be held. 

With a population of about 800,000, the Mong is among the biggest ethnic minority groups in Vietnam. Most Mong people live in mountainous areas at a height of 700 metres to 1,500 metres above sea level in the north, north-central and Central Highlands regions.
