Vietnam’s beauty featuredin French film
PSNews-After resounding successes in three films shot in Vietnam, namely L'Amant (The Lover), Indochine (Indochina), and Diên Biên Phu (Dien Bien Phu), the French cinema is likely to once again help promote the image of Vietnam and Vietnamese people with the movie “Ciel rouge”.

This is also the first French film that has been shot entirely in Vietnam since the three French films were first screened 25 years ago.
“Ciel rouge” (English: Red Sky) is produced by Mille Et Une Productions and directed by Oliver Lorelle, who wrote over 20 film scripts. He has been nominated and honored for many times the Cannes, Venice, Berlin and Locarno.
“Ciel rouge” was shot in 2015 in Ba Be lake, Bac Kan province and Dong Van and Meo Vac, Ha Giang province, Vietnam. The film will make its debut in France on July 19 and in October in Vietnam.
The film is set in Vietnam in 1946. Philippe - a young French soldier has been sent to the war in Vietnam. When he knows that he will have to torture a young girl of the Viet Minh (the Vietnamese revolutionary force), who has been arrested while fighting French colonialists for national independence, Philippe is shocked. He has decided to flee with her.
The main character of Ciel rouge |
On a seemingly desperate journey in the jungle of wilderness, the French soldier and the Vietnamese girl both search and struggle with their conscience.
Surrounding the wild but beautiful nature, Ba Be Lake seems to stay away from the outside world and the war, which has helped them uncover themselves. Love between them also buds and then blossoms...
However, according to the producer, the war serves as the background for the romantic love story of the two main characters.
The film also features beautiful scenes typical to Vietnam’s northern region. Particularly, the majestic mountainous scenery of Ha Giang province at the end of the film will leave a great impression on viewers.
It is expected that before the film is officially screened at cinemas, director Olivier Lorelle, actress Audre Giacomini and the film crew will come to Vietnam to attend the premiere and have exchanges with locals in Hanoi on June 28 and Ho Chi Minh City on June 29.
