Hoi An will host the annual 19th Hoi An-Japan Cultural Exchange in cooperation with the Japanese Consulate General, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Japan and Vietnam.
According to Mr. Nguyen The Hung, Vice Chairman of the Hoi An City People's Committee, an exhibition of paintings by Japanese artist Seako Ando is the opening program for the 19th "Hoi An - Japan Cultural Exchange" event in Hoi An.
Lacquer paintings will be exhibited at the Japanese Culture Gallery from July 25 to August 27 to help viewers realize that it is the natural scenery and people of Hoi An. They are the works that have contributed to introducing and promoting Hoi An's image to the public at home and abroad.
This is also the way painter Seako Ando (Japan) contributes to Hoi An's participation in UNESCO's network of creative cities in the field of crafts and folk art. Painter Seako Ando chose Hoi An as his second hometown to live.
Painter Saeko Ando, born in 1968 in Japan, then came to live in Vietnam and devoted herself to Vietnamese traditional lacquer art and painting.
According to the city’s Information and Culture Centre, several art performances and exhibitions including the Anison musical show, cosplay events, and flower arrangement will also be staged at the An Hoi Sculpture Park, the Old Quarter and on the Hoai River banks from morning till night at the event.
It said the Old Quarter will host the reenactment of a 17th-century wedding procession held for Vietnamese Princess Ngoc Hoa and Japanese businessman Araki Sotaro – the major focus of the event – at 4pm on August 5.
