Ba Trieu Temple Festival recognized as national intangible cultural heritage
PSNews - The Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee in March solemnly held a ceremony at Trieu Loc Commune, Hau Loc District to receive the title of National Intangible Cultural Heritage for Ba Trieu (Lady Trieu) Temple Festival.
“Viet Nam Su Luoc” (A Brief history of Vietnam) - a history book written in the early 20th century by Vietnamese historian Tran Trong Kim, described Lady Trieu (Trieu Thi Trinh), who was born in 226, as a strong, brave and smart person.
In 248, Lady Trieu led her troops to fight against Ngo invaders. When she went to battles, she usually wore yellow tunics and rode a war-elephant. Because of the lack of troops, she could not manage a long war and was defeated. She fled to Bo Dien commune and then committed suicide.
Later, the Nam De (Southern Emperor) of the early Ly dynasty ( 1010-1225) praised her as a brave and loyal person and ordered his followers to build her a temple, and gave her the title "Bật chính anh hùng tài trinh nhất phu nhân" (Most Noble, Heroic and Virgin Lady).
The Ba Trieu Temple Festival is held from the 22nd to 24th of the second lunar month every year in commemoration of Lady Trieu.
The 3-day cultural event honors the merits of the heroine and, at the same time, promote the unique architectural values of Ba Trieu Temple historic relic site and local tourism potential.
