Local photographers named among finalists of US photo contest
Three Vietnamese photographers have made it into the final round of this year’s Smithsonian magazine photo contest which is taking place virtually in the United States.
A photo snapped by Nguyen Tan Tuan is among the finalists in the travel category, featuring drying fish in Long Hai fishing village in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
Another photo depicts local residents in the Central Highlands region taken by Nguyen Van Hop, with the image also named in the people category. It captures Jrai ethnic people dancing and beating drums in a festival held in Pleiku city of Gia Lai province.
Dang Hong Long is another Vietnamese photographer who made it through to the final round of the people category. His photo depicts the silk drying process in Bao Loc city of Lam Dong province.
The annual Smithsonian photo contest has announced a total of 60 finalists across six categories, including natural world, people, travel, the American experience, altered images, and mobile.
The finalists have been selected from 44,000 entries taken by photographers from more than 140 countries and regions globally.
The winners are set to be announced in late March, with the grand prize winner receiving a sum of US$2,500 as a reward.
