State President of Vietnam performed the Tich Dien or ploughing ritual, which was held in Doi Son Village in the northern province of Ha Nam on February 7 (the seventh day of the first lunar month), praying for a year of bumper harvests and prosperity for the country.

This year event attracted many local people and visitors. The event is held every year on the seventh day of the first lunar month to pray for a year of bumper harvests and prosperity.

According to historical records, the festival dates back to the 10th century when King Le Dai Hanh decided to plough a field in Ha Nam to encourage rice cultivation. The festival was recognized by the State as “National Intangible Cultural Heritage”.

In his remarks, Phuc stressed that given natural disasters and diseases, particularly COVID-19 last year, the agricultural and rural sector has helped ensure food security, create a foundation for social stability, and contribute to Vietnam’s international integration, export, and prestige promotion.

Dressed in a farmer’s attire, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and other delegates performed the Tich Dien ceremony. Hailing the meaningful message of the Tich Dien festival, the President stressed that the Party and State always encourage the development of agriculture in the cause of national construction and protection.
