Vietnam to welcome foreign tourists this month
The Government Office announced on November 2 that Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh has approved a pilot plan to welcome international visitors as proposed earlier by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
100% adult residents and workers in Phu Quoc (Kien Giang) have been given the first jabs of COVID-19 vaccines, according to a report submitted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to the Prime Minister. Under the pilot plan, other destinations that are allowed to receive foreign tourists include Khanh Hoa, Quang Nam, Quang Ninh provinces and the central city of Da Nang, where most of the population and workers have been vaccinated.
These localities have been active in preparation to welcome foreign tourists. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recognized “vaccine passports” of 72 countries and territories, and discussed with nearly 80 other partners about mutual recognition of “vaccine passports”. These are favorable conditions for Vietnam to reopen international tourism activities, contributing to promoting related economic sectors.
The plan will apply to foreign tourists and overseas Vietnamese coming from Vietnam’s key tourism markets. They must prove certificates of taking full doses of the COVID-19 vaccination or COVID-19 recovery that are recognized by the authorities in Vietnam, except children under 12 years old accompanied by their parents or guardians. For vaccinated visitors, their last vaccine dose must be injected after 14 days and before 12 months. For COVID-19 recovered patients, the time between being discharged from the hospital and their departure must not exceed 6 months.
Other conditions include having negative results for SARS-CoV-2 test by the RT-PCR/RT-LAMP method within 72 hours before the departure and certified by the medical authority of the country conducting the test (from time of sampling) and having medical or travel insurance that covers COVID-19 treatment with a minimum liability of 50,000 USD.
