On June 20, vessel 522 in Naval Zone 4 carried out a rescue for 31 Quang Ngai province fishermen and brought them safely to shore at Cam Ranh port in Khanh Hoa province.

Captain Le Thanh Dieu, 36, from Quang Ngai said the fishing vessel’s engine broke down and the vessel sunk on the morning of June 8 as they were fishing in the waters of Truong Sa archipelago.

The captain said the crew panicked yet and managed to overcome the situation, however, the vessel was beyond saving and the crew abandoned ship, leaving the 31 fishermen waving their arms in the middle of the sea as they called out to be rescued.

Three nearby fishing vessels noticed the incident and brought the fishermen to safety. The crewmen were then brought to An Bang Island for a medical check-up and nourishment.
